sam·ska·ra

/samˈskära/

Samskara is a Sanskrit word that can be roughly translated to “impression”. It is used in yoga to refer to the way our experiences inform every part of ourselves: the physical body, the mind, our behavior, and even our breath. Samskaras can also be understood as habits, or patterns, and like any habits they can be positive or negative. The power of understanding samskaras is in understanding their ability to change, or their plasticity. It is this plasticity that we seek to cultivate through yoga and meditation.
