Yoga for Stress

We all know the physical benefits of yoga, but it’s that warm glow you feel after a great practice that keeps most of us coming back. In this workshop, we will take a close look at areas where we all hold tension: the neck, shoulders, and lower back; exploring poses, breathing exercises, and guided meditations designed to help you unwind. We’ll also discuss how to use these exercises outside of the studio for a quick recharge in our daily lives.

___________

Mindful Movement I: Interoception and Body Awareness

This four part series will examine different aspects of somatic awareness in our yoga practice, allowing time to pause and observe as we move mindfully through asana and meditation. Our first session will focus on deepening our awareness of physical sensations as mind-body communication, observing bodily signals such as heart rate and body temperature, and using that attunement to guide us to a more embodied practice. We will finish each session with a body-scan focused Yoga Nidra, allowing us to experience this deeper embodiment in both movement and stillness. All levels welcome.

Mindful Movement II: Interoception and Breath Awareness

This four part series will examine different aspects of somatic awareness in our yoga practice, allowing time to pause and observe as we move mindfully through asana and meditation. Our second session will focus on awareness of the breath: how the way we breathe shifts from pose to pose in our practice, and how to use the natural momentum of the breath to move more fluidly. We will finish each session with a body-scan focused Yoga Nidra, allowing us to experience this deeper embodiment in both movement and stillness. All levels welcome.

Mindful Movement III: Proprioception and Grounding

This four part series will examine different aspects of somatic awareness in our yoga practice, allowing time to pause and observe as we move mindfully through asana and meditation. Our third week shifts from a deeper awareness of the internal to a deeper awareness of the external: exploring the way our feet build every pose from the ground up, and using that to gain balance and stability in our physical practice.
We will finish each session with a body-scan focused Yoga Nidra, allowing us to experience this deeper embodiment in both movement and stillness. All levels welcome.

Mindful Movement IV: Proprioception and Dynamic Movement

This four part series will examine different aspects of somatic awareness in our yoga practice, allowing time to pause and observe as we move mindfully through asana and meditation. Our final session will explore how building our interoceptive and proprioceptive awareness allows us to move mindfully into our more dynamic poses. We will finish each session with a body-scan focused Yoga Nidra, allowing us to experience this deeper embodiment in both movement and stillness. All levels welcome.

“Breath is the king of the mind.” --- B.K.S. Iyengar

Pranayama is the yogic method of controlling, measuring, and directing the breath. Through mastery of our respiratory system, we are able to directly affect a myriad of other physiological systems in the body as well as the state of the mind. In this two-hour workshop, we will move through both theory and practice, incorporating pranayama into our time on the mat as well as discussing how these breathing exercises may be used in our daily lives to help manage stress and improve our ability to stay calm and focused.
